In baking, leaven is what makes simple ingredients rise into something beautiful. In life, it reminds us that even the smallest things, like a moment of rest, a shared meal, a quiet prayer can bring growth and renewal.And perhaps it’s no coincidence that with only one letter changed, “Leaven” becomes “Heaven.”
Because for me, bread is more than food. It’s comfort, connection, and a little taste of grace.Some of my favorite memories are of sharing bread around the table with my family. It wasn’t just a meal. It was a time to pause, connect, and enjoy the simple joy of being together. Those moments planted the seed for what Leaven would one day become.Baking came later in my life, as a way to recreate that same sense of warmth and connection for others. For me, baking is also a way of slowing down, a quiet rhythm that helps me take my mind off things and focus on something good. I chose sourdough because it’s a bread that’s both wholesome and full of life. Naturally fermented, it’s easier to digest, full of beneficial nutrients, and made without the unnecessary additives found in many store-bought breads. It’s simple, honest, and nourishing. The way bread was meant to be.Leaven began as a way for me to share that warmth with others. Every loaf is crafted with intention, inviting you to slow down, savor the moment, and be reminded of the goodness that rises in the simple things.
